As Mr. Rogers said to his television neighbors: “Whenever tragic events happen, look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping”.⁣ ⁣ That’s why, in the midst of an unprecedented bushfire crisis in Australia, I want to report this amazing story of the helpers that bravely defended the ‘undefendable’. This can be the story of every fire brigade in Australia right now. The people of Batlow were told their town was “undefendable” when a bushfire raced toward them, but the local Rural Fire Service brigade had other ideas. Batlow volunteer firefighters stayed to fight fires against all odds with the help of local farmers and workers. The brigade and their helpers not only saved themselves but also saved houses and prevented far greater damage to their town. Please make sure to support rescuers, helpers and those affected by the bushfires in Australia: Firefighters: NSW RFS @nswrfs CFA @cfavic CFS @cfsfoundation Australian Red Cross @redcrossau Salvation Army @salvosau Give @givit_aus Animal rescue organizations: @adelaidekoalarescue @wireswildliferescue @wildlifevictoria @deeppeacetrust @1300koalaz @portmacquariekoalahospital Source: Sidney Morning Herald (link in bio) Art by: @samanthacurcio #thehappybroadcast #love #positivity #happiness #happy #motivation #friends #fun #style #illustration #inspiration #goodnews #future #art #artist #australia #firefighters #donation #help #climatechange #volunteer #bushfiresaustralia

This story give me so MUCH hope for the future of the Amazon rainforest!
Change can happen, tag your friends and share some faith in the future ❤️ . In the 1940s, more than three-quarters of Costa Rica was covered in mostly tropical rainforests and other indigenous woodland. But extensive, uncontrolled logging led to severe deforestation. By 1983, only 26% of the country had forest cover. Following decades of decline, an unusual thing happened. The rate of deforestation slowed and eventually dropped to zero, and over time the trees began to return. What caused this dramatic reversal of fortune?
Costa Rica began to realize the potential of its rich ecosystems and set about safeguarding them.
Through a continued environmental focus by policymakers, today forest cover has increased to 52%, which is double 1983 levels. Sweden has rolled out several interesting new initiatives to tackle shortages of blood and keep its blood donors coming back to more consistent deposits. One approach that has caught the public’s attention is a service that sends donors a text message which tells them when their blood has been used. Donors will first receive a thank you message just after donating, but then later once their blood has been used to help another person, the donors are informed of that momentous moment. The service says the positive feedback to the donor about how they’ve helped out a fellow citizen encourages them to donate again. We’re a step closer to save White Rhinos from extinction! – Drop a 🦏 in the comments to celebrate this event. – Tag in the comments one of your friends that needs some good news. Seven eggs from the world’s last two remaining northern white rhinos have been successfully fertilized artificially, reviving hopes of saving the endangered animals. The world’s last male northern white rhinoceros, a 45-year-old named Sudan, died last year in Kenya, leaving only the two surviving female members, Najin and Fatu, of the species. The scientists said in a statement they had harvested 10 eggs from Najin and Fatu and that seven of those had been successfully matured and artificially inseminated. The roofs of hundreds of bus stops have been covered in plants as a gift to honeybee, by a city in the Netherlands. Mainly made up of sedum plants, a total of 316 have been covered in greenery in Utrecht. The shelters not only support the city’s biodiversity, such as honey bees and bumblebees, but they also help capture fine dust and store rainwater. This week’s super cute illustration comes from our friend @gebelia . Swedish power company Vattenfall is testing a technology developed by SaltX that stores energy in salt, with a goal of proving whether the process would be useful for storage of renewable energy such as from wind and solar farms. The process essentially mirrors how batteries work, except that instead of electricity, the system stores heat. SaltX says it has also patented a way of covering the quicklime with tiny particles — known as a nano-coating — to prevent it from lumping together after several heating and cooling cycles. Energy stored chemically in this way can retain its heat for “a day, week or even a year without losing the energy over time”, unlike water, which cools rapidly by comparison. Through the Cuddle Club, senior dogs and senior citizens connect. The club was started by the Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in San Francisco as a way to ensure that older dogs get love and attention. Several times a month, the group holds events where senior citizens gather in a room filled with dogs that are 7 or older. After petting and playing with the dogs for about an hour, visitors can then walk the elderly canines, getting them all out into the fresh air for exercise. Wind turbines in Scotland generated 9,831,320 megawatt hours between January and June 2019. The numbers, which were supplied by WeatherEnergy, mean that Scottish wind generated enough electricity to power the equivalent of 4.47 million homes for six months. That is almost double the number of homes in Scotland, according to WWF Scotland. By 2030, the Scottish government says it wants to produce half of the country’s energy consumption from renewables. It is also targeting an “almost completely” decarbonized energy system by 2050. A huge thanks to this week’s guest artist Leo Espinosa @studioespinosaworks A pioneering new breast cancer detection program in Colombia is relying upon a small group of blind women to physically feel for cancerous lumps, a task that some doctors claim blind women excel at due to the heightened sensitivity of their fingertips. According to research from MTE training organization Discovering Hands, visually impaired women are 30 percent more likely to accurately identify tissue alterations than doctors. Since the 19th century, Holland has had a huge dog population. An outbreak of rabies became one of the leading causes of death. Out of fear, many owners began abandoning their pets, and since this action was considered legal, streets became filled with stray dogs of all kinds. Holland wanted to change those unfortunate circumstances. They started by implementing the PSVIR method (pick, sterilize, vaccinate, identify, and return). All were free of charge; the government covered all the expenses. Holland achieved this goal without putting animals down and without kennels. And to incentivize adoption the Dutch government resolved to raise taxes on the purchase of dogs in stores.
